Gigabyte has a couple of new rack mounted boxes they are selling corporate types. One box, the G481-HA0, has 10 PCI Express slots with the idea of using a GPU for AI use. 4U is a large box which is needed to hold 10 video cards.
Small wonder there are no GPUs to speak of for gaming with companies selling a box that gobbles up video cards galore.
We suspect the real market will be digital coin miners who will likely drool at having a server with 10 video cards each.
Machines like this explains the reason why ads on Amazon for 6 packs of video cards are so common.
The AMD Radeon RX 580 is a popular card with digital miners.. We did a check for Radeon cards and there are cards available up to and including the RX Vega 64. Stores are restricting sales to 1 or 2 cards. Prices are still elevated over MSRP. NVIDIA cards are now also back in stock.
According to Nvidia, demand was higher than expected and brought in $289 million in revenue.
The G481-HA0 has a bank of 2.2 kW power supplies in a N+1 configuration. Expect this box to use 220V power with at least 25A of current.
We have to call foul against Gigabyte for selling out to digital coun miners.
