AMD Promontory FCH is the new southbridge to replace the older B950 seen with the AMD 900 series chipsets. The logic varies with the A320, B350 and X370 and the CPU installed.
AMD Bristol Ridge processors such as the A8-9600 are entry level and have fewer features. The upcoming Raven Ridge (Zen) which include the new Ryzen 3, Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7 processors. Some of the Ravel Ridge processors will have bundled Vega graphics for those who want integrated graphics similar to the Bristol Ridge APU series..The AMD Promontory FCH is very highly integrated. The image shows the maximum configuration.
- USB 3.1, 3.0, 2.0
- SATA Express
- SATA III
The options will vary widely depending on the price point a given motherboard is at. The higher priced models will have more memory slots and usually more USB ports etc.
The new logic is well suited to the more highly integrated APU and CPU with socket AM4. AM4 has more direct attached hardware so the supplemental hardware is simplified considerably.
Depending on the motherboard options standard ATX boards can be equipped with several slots for dual video cards and still have an available lane for the 10GBASE-T card.
We are aware that AMD is continuing to support socket AM4 until at least 2020. Check for a BIOS update if you are wanting to upgrade your CPU.
