If you ever run across error code 0x80004005, its one of the generic errors that is used by Explorer when problems occur. This has been seen with Windows XP and above.
It can come up with extracting zip files, copying files from disk to disk etc.
Sometimes it may be needed to open the command prompt and use ROBOCOPY to move or copy vast amounts of data. Explorer is not configured well to handle TB chunks of data.
According tp MSFT, this code may apply to activation, but this exists in other areas as well. It may be caused by disk error, or folder permissions.
This problem may occur if a file that the Windows Product Activation (WPA) requires is damaged or missing. This behavior occurs if one or both of the following conditions are true:
- A third-party backup utility or an antivirus program interferes with the installation of Windows XP.
- A file that WPA requires is manually modified.
