Sometimes a CPU or other component is returned. Generally this is not a problem. Sometimes small things do get lost.
PC components are pretty standard, there are not many different screw types used. Everything is pretty modular.
What is more concerning is the reports of a person buying a $1000 processor and the box contains a $99 CPU. In this situation the store did not check the returned item carefully enough to spot the scam.
Lately we have seen many repackaged processors returned with aa different model; This seems to be a growing problem as high-end processors are very expensive.
Repackaged hardware is not the same as a manufacturer’s refurbished product where somebody actually checks to be sure parts are included such as manuals and IO shields for motherboards etc.
