Samsung has finally added 32 GB unbuffered DDR4 memory modules to its lineup of products.
The UDIMMs are based on the company’s 16 Gb chips, which were introduced earlier this year.
Samsung’s 16 Gb DDR4 memory chips are made using the company’s 10 nm-class process technology. That makes them more energy efficient compared to the older 14nm lines.
Samsung has been making 32 GB SO-DIMMsfor laptops as well as 64 GB RDIMMs for servers. Now Samsung is offering higher capacity memory for desktop users. This now completes the range of platforms from laptop. desktop and server all now have new capacities to use.
At present 4GB SODIMM are the lowest cost memory for laptops and 8GB SO-DIMM are more than double the price. We have not seen many 16GB SODIMM as the prices are high enough to restrict demands considerably.t
Most machines many need a BIOS update to handle the larger capacity memory. Most recent BIOS updates have been intended for CPU faults not memory tables.
These larger capacity memory sticks will reduce the price of lower capacity ones which will be welcomed by mainstream users.
