Samsung has revamped their M.2 SSD drives with the new 970 series.
The Samsung 970 EVO and PRO delivers breakthrough speeds, best-in-class reliability, and a broad range of capacity options up to 2TB (M.2 2280). The latest V-NAND, new Phoenix controller, and Intelligent TurboWrite technology enhance high-end gaming.
- M.2 2280 NVMe
- 64-layer TLC NAND
- 3500 MB/s read speed
- TBW for 970 EVO: 150 TBW for 250GB model, 300 TBW for 500GB model, 600 TBW for 1TB model, 1,200 TBW for 2TB model
While slightly more expensive, the 970 is the fastest SSD out there. Samsung is also the most reliable SSD for gaming. Samsung is now offering new 64-layer TLC NAND chips to boost capacity of the line.
The Samsung 970 Pro only manages to hold onto a slim lead over the WD Black NVMe SS. Both saturate the M.2 interface quite easily. The 3.5 GB/s Read and 2.5 GB/s Write speeds are truly out of this world.
Samsung’s advanced nickel-coated controller and heat spreader on the 970 EVO enable superior heat dissipation.
Users should really only consider the Samsung 970 Pro if they absolutely need the fastest and most reliable storage medium on the market. The huge 2TB models are good for a spectacular number of games.
