The Sapphire Pure Black 990FX has it all for AMD. This board can support 2-way and 3-way CrossFire setups for extreme gaming.
Slots 1, 3 and 5 are x16, x16/x8, x8. The other slots are x4 electrical. AMD cards do work in x4 slots so its possible to use 6 workstation cards for an extreme display setup.
The board uses the EPS12V but it also has a Molex connector to provide more power for multiple video cards. Extreme boards like this are better off with dual EPS12V connectors but power supplies are not yet offering such a setup.
This board supports extreme overclocking of the CPU. It also supports DDR3-1866 which is used by the AMD FX Processors.
The BIOS on the Pure Black 990FX is able to recover from a bad overclock attempt rather easily so it easy to tune to hardware to perfection.
No question that this motherboard has every possible use covered. No worries over slots they all fit whatever card you have on hand. The board layout is exceptionally good, with no less than nine SATA 6Gbps rated ports along with a fully loaded I/O backplate offering USB 3.0, Bluetooth and dual GB lan support.
