Sticky Notes is one of the gadgets seen with Windows Vista. The gadget is designed to replicate the old style paper sticky notes that surfaced back in the 1970s.
Sticky Notes uses Microsoft’s SQL Server Lite which is the actual store for the notes. Unfortunately the database is not easily found to back it up. Later versions of Windows use the SQL Server Express edition.
Open the Explorer window and in the address bar enter:
Then look for the file called StickyNotes.snt and copy that file to your backups.
To restore your sticky notes, simply copy the StickyNotes.snt back to the %AppData%\Microsoft\Sticky Notes folder.
With later versions of Windows Microsoft has not changed the way the program works so its important to backup the file if you are going to use Sticky Notes on our machine.
