Taiyo Yuden has introduced a new 2.5V 1000µF ceramic capacitor that is dramatically smaller than the electrolytic ones presently seen in PC power supplies.
Initially production is 100,000 units a month but if they can improve production and reduce costs this new capacitor could revolutionize the power supply market.
Taiyo Yuden has been making 470µF capacitors since 2015 so the new 1000µF is a welcome development.
PC power supplies need 18V+ capacitors as they used 12V power. Taiyo Yuden capacitors are 2.5V which is too low. We expect new models will be designed in time.
